Le sigh. I’m not so gripey about technology to get to all my friends who love it. I like some of it for sure. But the short lifespan of these things I invest so much money and time into is really discouraging.
It’s not such a big deal to me, either; I could use an iPhone to access data on the go, but get along fine without one, and most of my computing stuff requires the full laptop experience, especially in terms of operating system flexibility.
That said, would it be better for reading books than a laptop? Yeah. Is it better than books? No, not for me. Not yet. The cost/fragility/everything margin is still too high.
If I were an up-and-coming college student, and I could put all my textbooks on it for cheaper than buying the books, AND I could take notes either by typing or with a stylus, AND I was an art student and could use it for drawing, et cetera? BIG TIME YES. But, when they start talking about “the iPad I keep in the kitchen” for looking up stock quotes or whatever, that’s a kind of affluence I am not remotely familiar with.
I started typing you an email like a week ago and got distracted. I’ll get to that in a second.
